Shiella Pestaño Gemperoa, who is the Company Manager of the 2TinCans Theatre Company, is best known as the wisecracking fan-favorite Lola Lucy in Gugmang Giatay the Musical. For that role, she was recognized as Best Featured Actress in a Musical by INQUIRER.net in its Best of Theater 2017 roundup.
Shiella has worked with many great directors since 2000. Her colorful theater career took off in college with the USC Theatre Guild, before moving on to Edgeworks Theater Company. Following a hiatus from 2006-2013, she is back in the industry, with Lola Lucy being her comeback acting role.
Shiella has also been involved with The Vagina Monologues since 2014, though this year is her first time to perform. As the show’s stage manager for she has been crucial in making the play possible.
What do you think makes The Vagina Monologues still relevant, even 20 years since its first run?
As long as there are women and girls who still don’t realize their strength and power, fell unsafe in their own homes, or are afraid to speak, The Vagina Monologues will never lose its essence.
On a personal level, how is performing in The Vagina Monologues important to you?
I’ve been handling stage management for The Vagina Monologues since its first local staging. This year, I’m grateful and excited to be sharing the stage with other fierce Vagina Warriors.
If your vagina could talk, what would it say?
